Libya-based Sahara Bank has recently gone live with new Core Banking software, Temenos’ Transact

The project was carried out by National Data Consultant (NdcTech), Temenos’ partner in the Middle East, Africa and Asia Pacific region.

Sahara Bank signed for Transact in 2014, with the implementation commencing the following year.

The Bank needed to replace its legacy system, Atlas, supplied by its parent, BNP Paribas. BNP Paribas acquired Sahara Bank in 2007, but pulled out of the operations in 2011, following the Arab Spring revolution in Libya.

Despite various challenging circumstances, including security, the project team has migrated all branches successfully

Sahara Bank offers retail, corporate and institutional banking services, both Conventional and Islamic. It has a network of 48 branches country-wide and a staff of 1500 people.

Sahara Bank is Temenos’ third customer in Libya, alongside Libyan Foreign Bank (LFB) and its subsidiary, Nuran Bank (a joint venture between LFB and Qatar Investment Authority).

NdcTech is a long-standing partner of Temenos in the region. It has worked on numerous Transact projects at National Bank of Kuwait in Egypt, Export Development Bank in Sudan, and Soneri Bank and NIB Bank in Pakistan, among others.
